David Byrne teams up with Fatboy Slim and many more!

My buddy, Scott, once said "David Byrne is the old faithful of creativity."
This little piece of news I received in my inbox this morning confirms how true that statement really is. Here it is, in his own words.

"I have, after many years, finished the Here Lies Love CD project - at least this iteration of it. It will come out in late February on Nonesuch. It's a collaboration with Fatboy Slim , an upbeat series of songs sung each one by a different singer. The songs are about Imelda Marcos and Estrella Cumpas, the woman who raised her. The package includes 2 CDs (22 songs), a DVD with videos of 6 of those songs, and a 100-page book that explains it all. Singers include Florence Welch (of Florence + The Machine), Sia, Santigold, Nellie McKay, Sharon Jones, St. Vincent, Róisín Murphy and many more (even me on 1 and 1/2)... I am pretty excited about this, but who knows, it might just make people crazy.

We'll see. There will be more concrete news, with links and music, in early January.

In the meantime, I have decided to rebrand myself, inspired by Philip Morris changing their name to Altria, Blackwater to Xe, and the train I'm riding on right now that calls itself Acela - none of which mean anything, but they are cleverly evocative. When I decide on the magic word, you'll be the first to know.

Needless to say, this sounds like it's going to rule.

Happy Holidays

Folks, I give you a man in a chicken suit playing "What is Love" by Haddaway on bass and melodica. I wish he was at every street corner to replace the Salvation Army bell jinglers.

The Supergroup "Not So" Honorable Mention

Hi folks, Danimal here with the all the Supergroups that did not make our list today. Either we ran our of time or they just weren't as "Super" as we thought they might be...

First on our list is Probot, the hard rockin' band with Lemmy from Motorhead up front and Dave Grohl on guitar. Just thought it was a little too much Grohl for one show but Lemmy holds his own.

Next on our list is Asia. If there was any award of the silliest most 80's band, the winner every year would be Asia. Asia includes members of veteran progressive rock bands Yes, King Crimson, Emerson, Uriah Heep, Roxy Music, and Wishbone Ash. All of the members are very talented but the music is kind of cheesy.

This next band is punk with a shot of estrogen. The supergroup, Lords of the New Church consists of members from The Dead boys and The Damned. And I thought women wore too much makeup!

The last on our list is Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. This group consists of Les Claypool and the Drummer from Primus, Buckethead, and Bernie Worrell from Parliament-Funkadelic. Now don't get us wrong we love all of these guys and they have put out some amazing music. But when we heard the songs on the album it was a little too weird for our taste. So even though we thought the album wasn't great I thought I would do them justice and show you a really cool jam that they put together for a show. Enjoy!

Triple neck guitars rule!

The more guitar you have on your person, the more awesome you become.
I think eveyone can agree on that.
It also doesn't hurt if you're Steve Vai.
But here's a video of him playing a three neck guitar.
Note his facial expressions. It helps to cover up the bottom half of the screen with his guitar on it, then you can really see how he makes love to the music.

That shit is wild.

Rock N' Talk Pays Homage to the Supergroup!

Hey everybody, it's Eebz. This sunday the Danimal and I are going to trace the history of the rock supergroup! In the late 1960s, the term was coined to describe "a group whose performers are already famous from having performed individually or in other groups." You could say that it all started with Cream, but since their break-up in '68, all kinds of supergroups have emerged. Some have been super awesome, and others have been super shitty. Either way, we want to represent as many as we can this sunday. That's where you come in! If you know of any supergroups that deserve more cred, call in and get your request on! (415) 338-1532
